Seascape with Numerous Ships (1898)

Christian Vigilius Blache (b. 1838 - d. 1920)

While similar to the other works of Blache at Danes Hall, Seascape with Numerous Ships presents a different mood.  The sea are calm with fewer white-capped waves.  The seas are filled with numerous sailing vessels.  We also see land in the horizon indicating we may be at the Øresund strait peering cross the water from Denmark to Sweden in the distance. The skies, while still overcast, are a shade brighter.  Although the water filled with sailboats, there is one steamship in this painting. Can you spot it?
